ABOUT JOY

Joy has worked in the non-profit sector for 32 years. Her experience includes strategic planning, leadership coaching, team development, project management, and administration in the public and private sectors. With a master’s degree in strategic leadership, she coaches leaders and teams, emphasizing leadership and organizational health. Joy was an accomplished athlete at Portland State University. She led her volleyball team to a national title in 1992 and was named the NCAA Player of the Year. She played with the USA National Volleyball Team before her first child was born in 1994.

Now living in Amman, Jordan, Joy serves alongside her husband, Wrestling for Peace Executive Director Dan Russell. As a consultant and peace broker, Joy utilizes cultural connectors such as sports, music, and education to meet practical needs and build bridges cross-culturally. Living in a region where millions of people are displaced and disregarded, she has committed her life to serving the most vulnerable in society, matching resources with trauma victims, mobilizing aid to refugees, and exposing people to the beauty of the Holy Land.
